THE Virtual Reality game can be a pricey one to get into… if you want to do it properly.
The kit itself can run into thousands, and if you don’t splash out you’ll be getting a sub-par experience that’ll make you wish you hadn’t bothered.
That’s why the new IMAX VR centre at the Odeon in the Trafford Centre is such a genius idea.
They have state of the art kit that can plunge you and your mates straight into a thrilling and immersive world where anything is possible.
Fancy working on the bridge of a Star Trek starship? You can do that. Want to soar like an eagle above the streets of Paris? Yes, that’s there too. How about stepping into Batman’s boots and teaming up with Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League? That’s there as well.
There are a few other worlds to experience and I can tell you it’s an incredible experience – easily the best VR set-up I’ve tried, and I’ve tried a few.
There are 10 VR pods at the centre, some kitted out for individual play, and some set up for groups to play together. And when I say set up, I mean set up – not just the latest headsets and powerful computers to drive them, but there are also special VR seats that add to the experience with bumps, jolts and vibration, and backpacks that do the same when you need to be standing up.
It’s a brilliant set up and the perfect way to get a taste of VR without splashing the thousands you’d need to spend to get this kind of experience at home… assuming you even have the room to do it.
The new centre is one of only five worldwide and the first one in Europe. It will offer a rolling programme of experiences between 8 and 15 minutes long and prices start at £7.50 per person for a session. Fun on your own, but even better with your mates – the co-op games are stunning, and the competitive games get the blood pumping.
